Currently I do not have extra rehearsals outside of the school day. We still earn 1st divisions using our normal class time.
Virtual learners will not be in class during the school day and not learn the marching portion, nor play with the other students to work their ensemble skills actively.
My perspective is students who choose virtual learning will be doing so from a 'private lessons' perspective. I can assign material based on their current abilities and set a growth chart to accomplish throughout the semester.
Material to include:
Scales, Rhythmic Practice, Sightreading (smartmusic), Region Music, Solos.. etc.
I need to find a way to reward those students and keep up their confidence and have a goal in which they can show off their accompishments.
I view the best part of band is the social aspect and I don't see how that can be implemented. Many kids are in band because of the bonds they build between one another. In my experience, not many students choose band just for the experience of playing an instrument.
What are your thoughts on materials/goals for your virtual learners? Are your students allowed to travel and perform with your students who go to school daily?
