It's nice to see that a lot of directors are full of it and a bunch of blowhards. How many of you here have said something to the affect of "You need to take care of you because the district won't hesitate to throw you under the bus" when it comes to leaving a position or retiring late or some other such situation. Now we are all, "Oh, we won't strike because striking is stupid and not cool, but really we are just scared." Like I said, I am conflicted. On the one hand I believe in honoring my promise (in this case my contract) but a the same time I am tired of the state and districts treating teachers like chattel; like a means to an end instead of THE most important part of the education process. As much as we feel they will replace any striking teachers, what do you think will happen when a teacher dies from COVID? They will morn you as long as it takes to replace you. The less we as teachers stand up for ourselves the more the state and districts will feel they can use us in any way they feel no matter the risk. This is too important and too risky of a situation to just lie down and and take it. The line must be drawn here! No further!
