...my dad was a rather successful football coach. He always had excellent relationships with the band director at wherever school he was teaching. He also knew the other coaches at least on a professional level in the area as well. He would hear the coaches with bad teams blame the band for all their problems. He would ask them, "Explain how the band is at fault for the linemen missing their blocking assignments?" He could never get an answer.
At home during dinner, he would sometimes say this:
"A poor workman always blames their tools. But there are some workmen who are so poor that they don't even know what tools they have."
