I agree. There is definitely a stigma against directors who teach in socially/economically disadvantaged schools. Directors like the one you were responding to perpetuate this stigma and often will ignore success in a very difficult situation. It takes a good teacher to have success in these districts. Imagine what they can do with a lot of resources.
OP was not bitter. They did not have a bad attitude. It appears they were surprised that a potential employer would actually tell an applicant that information.
