I have been at my current position for 4 years. The district is a First Division Dumpster Fire with TEA about to walk in and take over. To add insult to injury....apart from myself and one other teacher....NOBODY CARES that the district is in this poor shape. When I first got here, the band was in just as much bad shape as the rest of the district. In the last two years, we have been making ones and twos. This last year, we missed earning the first sweepstakes since 1964 by one sight-reading judge (FYI, we had an early C/SR date). My bands at my previous schools have always improved year-to-year.
Anyway, I want to get out of here before TEA shows up. I just got informed today that a position I applied for was filled by another candidate. On the surface, no big deal considering the number of interviews I've had in my career. However, this time the school told me why they passed me over. They told me, "You are currently at XISD. We are aware of the situation that district is in, and we want no part of it."
Huh? The band program is the only thing going right around here, and my ratings prove it. My ratings at previous schools prove that I don't suck as a director. As has been said before on TYB "Good teaching is good teaching."
The 45 day deadline for us is this coming Sunday. Unless someone interviews and then offers me a position in the next 3 days, I'm going to be stuck here.
