Worry about music. Make your band sound good. DCI is wonderful, but it isnít high school marching band. Theyíre not the same thing and they donít serve the same purpose.
DCI experience can be helpful, but it doesnít automatically equal a high quality band or a quality band experience for your students. A band that plays well, can perform quality concert literature (and understand what that is) and where the students have a strong experience will always sound better on the field.
Many value DCI experience, to an extent. But the best programs value good pedagogy and musicianship. If a program is only worried about your DCI experience I would consider that a red flag. Strong directors and music administrators are able to differentiate.
Thatís only my perspective. But I hope it helps. Good luck in your endeavors.
