All mutual funds are managed. I pay the managers of the Vanguard Wellington fund .17% and the managers of the Vanguard REIT fund .12%. I have a similarly sized portfolio. You pay your manager $2,500 per year ($500,000 X .5%) and I pay MYSELF $2,500 a year. Some years I reinvest, some years my wife and I take a nice cruise. Heck, maybe your advisor was on that same cruise! Now, if I won the Powerball I definitely would hire a financial advisor but in my current financial neighborhood I feel quite comfortable with the DIY approach.
