Re: Stipend vs. Extra Days
Your superintendent is correct. Extra days are for days beyond the 187 (or regular teacher contract length). The stipend is for activities during the school year that are outside of the normal school day. Of course, this also varies by district. My current district did away with all extra days a few years ago for everyone except administrators. This means that I don't have to report until the other teachers do and my last day is the same as everyone else. When we tried to explain the extra days we put in before and after the school year, we were told that the stipend would cover that and that we were free to spend as much time as needed before and after the school year to get stuff done. On the other hand, my previous district allowed us to count events on the weekend towards our extra days. Even if we didn't use all those days, we didn't need to actually show up during the summer to finish the contract.
