Re: UIL Summer Rehearsals Guidelines
A UIL representative stated yesterday that they did not know where the TEA statement regarding choir and wind instruments originated. A TEA representative was present and did not respond. It was clear at that point that UIL and TEA Fine Arts had not collaborated with respect to that statement. To be honest, I’m not impressed with our fine arts representation at TEA.
But TEA set out recommendations and school districts do not have to accept those just like they don't have to accept the recommended calendar. State and local requirements say nothing about playing a wind instrument.
These are recommendations. If your principal and FA director say play - play. They overrule TEA recommendations, (in my interpretation). UIL not specifying leaves it open to local jurisdiction.
