Re: Your thoughts
It doesn't help anything to be patronizing. It's not going to change someone's mind, and it's not going to make you feel any better about the situation. This hostile attitude on TYB is getting worse and worse. I'm on the side of opening but being cautious. I was at my favorite restaurant yesterday picking up an order and the dude in front of me was not masked and was, you could tell, sort of posturing about how manly he was for not masking. The weird thing is, he used the hand sanitizer they had on the counter 5 times in the few minutes he was waiting. My point is, even people who want to send a message of not living in fear can be cautious. Seems like he's got it backwards since you're much more likely to inhale droplets containing the virus then you are to get it by touching something, but whatever.
And by the way in Houston? 119 COVID deaths vs 117 murders (and the murderers had a two month head start). I couldn't find car fatalities for 2020, but recent years have had 180-200 deaths per year in Houston. It's just a guess, but I think the Rona will beat that. When you through out 'you're more likely to' you should get your facts straight. 6 weeks ago you'd be right. Now you're not.
You can stay home. You can have everything delivered to you. You can live a touch-less, secluded life. You will be safe from all harm that could ever come for you because your home is 100% safe and you would never have to worry again. YOU could do that and nobody would care.
And I can take a gander out to a restaurant, socialize with friends, and even visit a sporting event or two before hitting a store to pick up some essential items or even just a screwdriver.... I don't mind you staying home. Just leave me alone to be free.
And blah blah blah on me causing harm to others. Because the reality is, I'm only causing harm to others if they also, choose to venture out knowing that they too, would like to live free. I can't harm them if they stay home. You see, there are two sides to this. We can infringe on my way of living, or we can infringe on someone else's. Call me selfish, (but there is more to health than being free of a virus as the number of domestic violence calls has doubled and the mental health of this country is tanking. We thought we had mass shootings in the past....) I choose to let the majority be free while the much smaller minority, (over 65 for some and especially over 80 and nursing home residents), takes precautions. You are more likely to get shot or die in a car wreck this week in Houston than you are to die from Covid. Maybe that's why you should stay home instead of a virus.....
So we should use a song to dictate public health and safety?
There's a piece called The Star Spangled Banner. Might want to check the lyrics.
Land of the free and home of the brave? What are you even talking about? Please elaborate on your statement.
Amen. Time to live up to "Land of the free and home of the brave".
