Re: Your thoughts
No. A song does not dictate public policy. But to play along, can you show me documentation that says US policy is dictated by songs?
You were free before the virus. You were free during lockdowns. You are free now. You will be free when things open back up.
Now, I'm not advocating for everyone to stay home to shelter in place because this isn't reality. I venture out, but I don't go to restaurants or other places where a lot of people are accumulating. I view it from the standpoint that I want to protect myself and others. Yes, even people who refuse to listen to basic advice.
Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Be mindful of what you touch. Be mindful of how close you are to other people. Basic stuff that really takes no effort and doesn't impact your "freedom".
You can stay home. You can have everything delivered to you. You can live a touch-less, secluded life. You will be safe from all harm that could ever come for you because your home is 100% safe and you would never have to worry again. YOU could do that and nobody would care.
And I can take a gander out to a restaurant, socialize with friends, and even visit a sporting event or two before hitting a store to pick up some essential items or even just a screwdriver.... I don't mind you staying home. Just leave me alone to be free.
And blah blah blah on me causing harm to others. Because the reality is, I'm only causing harm to others if they also, choose to venture out knowing that they too, would like to live free. I can't harm them if they stay home. You see, there are two sides to this. We can infringe on my way of living, or we can infringe on someone else's. Call me selfish, (but there is more to health than being free of a virus as the number of domestic violence calls has doubled and the mental health of this country is tanking. We thought we had mass shootings in the past....) I choose to let the majority be free while the much smaller minority, (over 65 for some and especially over 80 and nursing home residents), takes precautions. You are more likely to get shot or die in a car wreck this week in Houston than you are to die from Covid. Maybe that's why you should stay home instead of a virus.....
So we should use a song to dictate public health and safety?
There's a piece called The Star Spangled Banner. Might want to check the lyrics.
Land of the free and home of the brave? What are you even talking about? Please elaborate on your statement.
Amen. Time to live up to "Land of the free and home of the brave".
