Re: Method book selection
Manhattan Beach Publishing came out with a method book called 'Making Music Matter' a few years back for beginning students. It's a total dumpster fire for beginners as far as I'm concerned because of the pacing and structure of the book. However for a NV group made up of a second year students I think it's amazing! You can go back to the beginning on concepts, but it doesn't keep things simple very long at all. Each page has a piece Frank Ticheli wrote featuring things learned. (I wish he would expand some of them and publish them)
I've found that the book has helped me bridge the gap between Varsity and Non-Varsity players going into their 8th grade years pretty well. It also seems to have helped with their reading skills significantly too.
I would never ever use it for beginners, but it's fantastic for what you're looking for!
