I'm talking about tuning, not Revelli's treatment of his bands. Okay, how about Fennell? Was he a tyrant as well? I'm just saying there are a lot of legitimate ways of getting the same thing done. I personally do it more the old school way. We use "ears" to match pitch adjust intervals and for balance and blend.
Fair point, not everything works for everyone. That being said if I did the kinds of things Revelli did today to get his bands to sound the way they did I would be fired... My student teaching supervisor was a student of his and I had many good hours of stories from him on Revelli!
