Re: Buying a Tuner

I have a Peterson on a shelf somewhere. I hardly use it. I try to avoid going down the row telling kids sharp or flat, I'd rather they handle it themselves.
Instead of the big bulky strobe, maybe invest in a class set of small tuners to keep on stands?
And of course, before the trolls come out, I'll add that either way the visual tuner is a tool to develop ears, not the end goal.
After going through my budget, I have a little extra and I thinking of buying a tuner for my band. Right now I have a harmony director and students have a personal tuner that I check out to them, but I am thinking of getting a Peterson tuner to have with me at my podium. I have enough to get a 490 but should I wait and go big and get the 5000 model tuner or do something completely different. I am at a 3A program and my HS size is currently 50-55 and my MS bands will be around 35 a class. I also have tuner apps on my phone as well(tonal energy, bandmate).
