Re: Easy Job vs. Growth Job
I left a charter job I loved to teach at a middle school with a track record of excellence. Turns out it was only the top group that was excellent and I had 5 other classes with kids who didnít care and some who were actually angry that I expected them to play. Iíve worked so much more for less pay, and things are finally getting to where I want them. I got my UIL sweepstakes and performed at Carnegie Hall, but I realize that I would have been just as happy at my old school. Yes, Iím building a better resume, but thatís just vanity.
I currently work at a good charter middle school. The job is easy, the band is pretty decent, no UIL and reasonable hours. My only complaint is that the school will never allow UIL and there is little opportunity for my own growth and development.
I have a job offer for a large middle school head, which would allow me to work with the high school directors, other middle school directors, etc. It would include UIL and be more of a traditional program and have some room to grow and learn.
Is it worth leaving an ďeasyĒ job for a big boy job, or is it all about the easiest route to the paycheck in the end?
Iíve been teaching for 8 years.
