Re: Should I still talk to admin?
Don't do it. If you really want to put up a fight, wait until you are not on a probational contract. HD could just turn around and ask the admin to get rid of you. When you are probational, they do not need to give you any reason at all for letting you go. First year directors should never get involved with these kids of battles. I have seen it before, and it usually ends badly for the young director.
I have been in your situation before. Either learn to work and thrive in your position or move on to a situation that better fits your ambition and work ethic. Good luck
Before Spring break I had hit my breaking point with my head director.
Coming to school late, leaving early, not teaching sectionals while myself and the other assistant are, putting too much on our plates, not being available to help me with my band, etc... itís clear to me that he is checked out and isnít putting the time in to this program.
This is my first year teaching, so itís taken me a few months to figure out that. Whatís worse is that any convo when weíve tried to talk about it has ended in him getting defensive and telling us that we are working too hard and should scale back ourselves. I usually leave by 5, only gone in early enough to teach my sectionals, so I donít agree with this at. all.
I was planning on talking to my principal about this before the break, but now with the closures it seems unfair. BUT... I know this will happen again next year. Also with the work at home order heís not doing anything... no assignments for top band, not answering emails, ignoring us, etc.
