You need to think about where you're at right now in life and what you want. I had an "easy" job for 2 years. 5-6 camps teaching band. Got paid VERY well. School got out by 3, daily and I was home with my wife.
Got offered a HD gig at a near by high school making slightly less money.
Of course I took the HD job, and it was probably needed for my career growth. BUT if I had to do it all over again, I would have stayed at the easy job. Great money + less hours / low pressure = more time with my wife and daughter and a happier me.
I love my current job, dont take me wrong. But often times, an easy job is the way to go if it checks the boxes for you.
Also, UIL is not going to make you grow or learn
I currently work at a good charter middle school. The job is easy, the band is pretty decent, no UIL and reasonable hours. My only complaint is that the school will never allow UIL and there is little opportunity for my own growth and development.
I have a job offer for a large middle school head, which would allow me to work with the high school directors, other middle school directors, etc. It would include UIL and be more of a traditional program and have some room to grow and learn.
Is it worth leaving an “easy” job for a big boy job, or is it all about the easiest route to the paycheck in the end?
I’ve been teaching for 8 years.
