Think about what you really want. Do you want a great band program? I know in my charter school, it felt like the school system was actively working against having a good band program. Roadblocks at every turn.
Do you want an easy job, where you can turn the lights out after the last class and go home for the weekend? There's nothing wrong with that, if that's what you want. Band doesn't HAVE to be all-out all the time.
Now I work in a good band program. The school and the district support the program very well. I'm working more hours, but it's less stress. The bump in pay doesn't justify the extra hours, but it's nice. What's more important (to me) is I have a solid group of kids making great music. It's much more rewarding.
