Re: Spill the beans on sightreading!
In the 10 years I've read the Level 3 SR at UIL, this year's was the absolute easiest one I've ever seen. I could see the questions on my kids' faces when they turned the music over: "Is this really it?" Very straight forward, no exposed melodies, not a single accidental, in concert Eb. As frustrated as I've been in the past over some of the garbage on the Level 3, I think they may have swung too far in the opposite direction and made it a little too accessible. I know that the Level 3 is read by a very wide range of bands, but it still felt too much easier than it should be for the kinds of pieces those bands are playing on stage. That being said, I was still perfectly happy to take my 1's and move on!
So... since there won't be any more UIL contests for the rest of the year, anyone who did actually go want to tell us about the sightreading pieces? I don't think anyone ever saw the Level 6 this year, but I think a few people did see Level 5.
