BRING BOTTLED WATER. You will need it with all the walking you will be doing.
You can park at the Alamodome and take the shuttle back and forth. I think parking is $10 a day.
So many great places to eat. First timers have to go to Schilo's. I recommend Rosario's for great Tex Mex. It's a bit of a walk or a very short Uber but worth it. Zinc Bistro has a small but very good menu that is priced fairly. Their lunch specials are great.
Enjoy the performances. Some great concerts and showcases this year. Download the Guidebook app and make a personal schedule.
Bring a notebook and keep track of what you liked and what you would like to do next time. TMEA is habit forming. You will want to come back.
Be prepared to be bombarded by students at various times on the exhibit floor. They are obnoxious but remember, they are kids and are pretty overwhelmed too.
The hotel bars are great places to meet people and learn a lot. When I was a young director I would see the old legends sipping cocktails and I would position myself within earshot and just listen. Many times they will invite you into the conversation. Listen more than talk but don't be afraid to ask questions.
Let us know how you liked it.
