Re: Student pulled from class daily
No. In my bigger picture music is EQUAL to math and science. Every day a kid misses band he's getting that much farther behind his classmates. If it takes weeks!?! to get caught up, he will most definitely struggle when he returns. Now possibly the one thing he enjoyed about school makes him feel just as stressed as all of his other classes. The admin in this situation are idiots.
Look at the big picture. The real problem is that you have a student who is not doing the required work in one or more of the core classes. If the student continues on this path he/she will not be available to you to take part in many things the band does. This kind of student is a high risk for being a future dropout. If band is important enough to this student he/she has to understand that the core classes must be passed. Talk to this student and let him/her know that he/she is important to you and the band. We are not just band directors. We are educators for the total student, not just our programs.
I know it's been posted before and I'm struggling to find it on the UIL/TEA website...
What is the rule regarding students being pulled from band class daily so they can do their homework for other classes?
My AP told me students who don't complete assignments will be pulled from band until they get caught up, which could be weeks.
Any help from TYB is greatly appreciated!!!
