Re: Interested in elementary music - steps/words of advice?
If you aren't going to use a ready made curriculum like Quaved I would highly suggest brushing up on your guitar/piano skills. Kodaly and recorder are just one part of the K-5 music curriculum. Singing is a HUGE part of it.
So I'm looking at getting into elementary music possibly in the future. I feel like I would enjoy it, but I'm also hyper-aware of how relatively little I know about the job and what it takes to do so. While my teaching certification technically covers my qualifications when applying for a job like this, I've only ever done band. And elementary music seems like a whole different ballgame.
Are there any tips/tricks/pointers for a band guy like myself to break into the world of recorders and Kodaly? It feels like a long time ago I was learning about that early childhood pedagogy, so I'm a bit rusty.
