Re: Interested in elementary music - steps/words of advice?
I would at least start out by using Quaver Music. It has ready made lessons, videos and activities. It makes you more of the facilitator. Yeah there are some band directors in small schools who teach music that bash Quaver Music, but I find that it makes life easier and it already has all the lesson plans with TEKS done for you.
So I'm looking at getting into elementary music possibly in the future. I feel like I would enjoy it, but I'm also hyper-aware of how relatively little I know about the job and what it takes to do so. While my teaching certification technically covers my qualifications when applying for a job like this, I've only ever done band. And elementary music seems like a whole different ballgame.
Are there any tips/tricks/pointers for a band guy like myself to break into the world of recorders and Kodaly? It feels like a long time ago I was learning about that early childhood pedagogy, so I'm a bit rusty.
