Try not to worry about it too much. Through my own experience, and the experience of those I went to school with and started teaching together, the first year always "sucks". Even if you are an ABD working with one other director, or a staff of several, the first year working as a full fledged teacher is always nerve wracking. Most of the time, the reason the spring seems to be more exhausting than the fall is because there isn't another performance on Friday night, and maybe the next day also. In the spring, the performance demands slow way down, and you are worried about the band losing their focus and getting bored. Just keep plugging away and don't "overthink" the situation. As you get more experience, you will find more ways to run rehearsal more efficiently.
Is it just me or is this semester way more exhausting than marching band season? Any advice to push through this semester?
