So we are at a precipice where I teach. In the past several years we've been successful without requiring much outside the classroom on an individual level. But now we're stepping in to the big boy music world and we need to change the practice culture in our program.
So with that said, those who have successfully changed the culture in your ensembles from "teacher led" practice (where a kid and teacher work one-on-one through the difficult parts) to student led practice (where the student does an overwhelming portion of the practice on their own) what would you suggest that we do to help this along?
Just so you're aware we're talking a 4A HS program that is split in to two groups based (mostly) on ability. Looking at grade 4 music.
