Curnow - 2 pages, 6 minutes. Whole piece in D minor. First is a cadenza followed by a Largo lament with lots of slurred ascents to High A (A4, highest note in piece). Second section is Allegro with ascending 16th note "Clarke-esque" patterns. 3rd is similar to the beginning and last section has 16th note chromatic runs scaling an octave plus a fourth. [easier]
Marcello - Largo and Allegro - 1 page, 2 1/2 minutes. Largo is very approachable, Allegro is a little more difficult. Has trills and grace notes. Jumpy and requires some breath control, but is basically an F major key study in 16th notes @ ♩=96. Highest note is G above staff (G4) which is also on the easier side for class 1.
I've noticed even on other instruments, Marcello tends to write very approachable stuff. His material basically comes off as study pieces for young string players. There are 4 other Sonatas by Marcello on the Euph class 1 list that I haven't checked out yet, but I imagine are also of similar difficulty.
What is an accessible class 1 euphonium solo.
This would be for a student who has had a traumatic brain injury from a car accident and it takes him a little bit longer to master things.
