Re: Asking for a raise
You can ask, but don't be offended by a no answer. It's not as easy as just giving you a raise. Our supplemental pay is in the form of a stipend. If they were to raise your assistant stipend, I would guess the HD would also like theirs raised. Not to mention the plethora of assistant coaches who would think they need the bump as well. Good advice would be to find a district that pays more than the current one you are at if you would like a raise. Best of luck!
As a young band director, I have a hard time asking for what I need.
Veteran band directors, how would you ask for a raise? I'll be finishing up my 3rd year as a HS Asst. band director. I have helped change the culture in the program in both marching and concert band. I've had the highest ratings consecutively in concert and sight reading with my NV and SNV bands compared to my coworkers. There has been a tremendous amount of change in this program since I've been here, paired with a tremendous amount of stress!
I would love to stay here but I live month to month (school loans suck!). I also don't want to sound cocky or spoiled when asking for more money.
Who should I talk to? Head band director or straight to my fine arts director?
