Are they being prepared for what will come at them next year? Definitely take some FMLA time and allow a long-term sub to fill in so the kids have a consistent, quality teacher.
What about your co-workers? I know when my associates miss a day, it puts a lot of weight on the rest of us to try and come up with something to teach their students and our own without basically forfeiting a day of teaching.
