Please do something you haven't done before. By learning new music, not only will you grow as a director, but your students will benefit, too.
As a composer of music at this grade level, it bothers me that directors just put the same 10-12 pieces in rotation with their bands. What incentive do band composers have to write new music if people will not consider them, then play them.
And, I'm talking about UIL here. By the time a piece is placed on the PML, it's a proven piece that was not only vetted by a publisher, but also vetted by the PML committee. These are generally very good pieces of music...
