When they put it in the JH, and I saw all of the band kids that were proud to have been elected to it I rolled my eyes and thought, "wow, this is what's gonna kill our program"
We are now 3 years later. Probably 40% of our JH band program is also in AVID. Maybe 25% at the high school. We went from 0 band kids in college bands to having 5 graduates from 2019 in college music programs (some major, some not). I've been in the AVID class quite a bit due to projects they've done that involved teacher interviews etc.
I'm sold on it's value. It's a good program if it's done right. It's a dumpster fire if it's not managed.
