Didn't say it was the ONLY system that accomplished positive goals, but was saying its not the SYSTEM that's the problem, rather implementation. IF it becomes an all or nothing thing, or we don't try to flex it around our kids' culture, then of course it fails. Anything would.
I've seen schools that should be off the rails as far as student engagement and management (based on indicators like SES) that have students that are really taking the initiative to be respectful and attentive to their teachers, and performing at a high level.
We don't have AVID and our students are SES, rural, respectful, attentive to the teachers and performing at a high level. We just have this weird thing called, "discipline" from the elementary school all the way up to the superintendent's office.
