Re: Contracted Employee/Aide
So you're going to expect a degreed professional to work 50-60 hour weeks for 29k or so? Oh, and with private lessons, they won't be able to be paid for those, either, so that's more money out of pocket.
Please do the right thing. Either hire a percussionist as full time director (not a para) or let them be a contracted clinician.
I know it's "what's done" all over the place, but it's not right. If you're going to hire a percussionist as a para, make sure they have a significant stipend to make up for the fact that their salary is absolutely peanuts.
I have high hopes of adding an assistant band director next year, but I also want to add another staff member in a part-time capacity (i.e. percussion instructor). This person would have the following responsibilities:
summer band instruction
marching band responsibilities (rehearsals, practices, games/contests)
concert season responsibilities
What is the best way to approach this? Suggest as an aide position hire?
