If you are looking and interviewing you need to tell your Principal. You have to list them and you want them finding out from you and not a phone call from ABC ISD. You are looking, you aren't resigning. Hopefully you have a relationship with your admin that would allow such an option. When I started looking I told the people that needed to know, (certain admin), before my first application went in. I didn't have any other commmunication with anyone and certainly not the kids or other teachers about the search. Once I had secured a job I waited until after UIL before I started letting anyone know, (select admin), and then had a timeline from there on who needed to know what and when. My admin was given more prep so that they could begin the search but they couldn't post anything until I turned in a resignation.
I'll be starting a new non-teaching job this summer, pending that my interview process this weekend goes well.
How soon should I tell my boss and admin? Should I wait until the end of the school year so it doesn't turn into a lame duck situation, or let them know now so that they have plenty of time to prepare for next year?
Just looking for some advice on what you think would be best. Do you think I'd be treated differently by my superiors if they know I'm on my way out in a few months?
