Re: Block Scheduling Issues
Biggest con - do your kids have attendance issues? In a 2 week window kids go to class 5 times. If there is a holiday or they are absent they could have 6 days before their next class. If that's a math class or a science class they are toast, (go to class Thursday, miss Monday, next class is Wednesday).
Simple math shows that block scheduling is a losing battle. If your school is set on it either the band kids, (all of them), need to come to class daily or you need a schedule like MW=A, TH=B, Friday is every class for 45 minutes. This means you see every kid 3 times a week. I had a high school on block. Most of my kids came daily but I had a handful in every ensemble that were every other and it played hell on our attendance. What it really guaranteed was that the only full ensemble rehearsal we ever had was on stage at concert or UIL......
My school is thinking about going to block scheduling and most of the teachers are on board with it.
I might be at the losing end of this battle (its not a negative environment, I like my administration a lot), but I want to have the best case available to make. What case against block scheduling should I be making?
If I do get block scheduling next year, what factors should I consider in being a part of it?
