Re: Student "Practice" Social Media Pages
If they're "practicing their tails off" because of it.. let them be. It doesn't really matter what we think of it because you're right; we can't control what they do outside the school day. Are they enjoying themselves/music because of this new hobby? Excellent. Our job is done.
I have noticed on Instagram an influx of high school students in the area who make their own Instagram pages dedicated to show them practicing and performing.
Ie: "SuzyPlaysTuba" or "JoePracticesClarinet"
Has anyone else noticed these?
On one hand I think they are great because the kids obviously love band and are usually practicing their tails off and wanting to show their progress. These kids are probably your most dedicated and strong students.
On the other hands, it seems like a slippery slope between practicing and vanity searching/showing off. Additionally they are asking for/getting advice from complete strangers online who may or may not know what they are talking about, thus creating bad habits.
I know we cant control what they do on social media but I was wondering if im the only one who has noticed these around and what your thoughts are.
