Lack of matching experience

I would love to try teaching high school. Iíve taught middle school for several years now. I have always planned on being a middle school director and my marching band experience is nothing to brag about. I had always told myself I could never teach high school because of the serious lack of marching experience. Personally, I only marched in high school. My college didnít have a marching band and our one credit hour marching techniques class was lame at best. Iíve spoken to a few people throughout my career that taught high school and didnít have much responsibility with marching. They helped at rehearsals but as far as teaching drill, leading a marching rehearsal, etc. they shared few responsibilities in that area.
So my question to you, can it be done? Can you teach high school (and be any good at it!) and be very inexperienced with marching band? If you are a high school head director interviewing for your staff, would you ever consider a candidate with very limited marching experience?
