Re: Region Band Audition Rubric
It's just the nature of auditioning 100 people for 14 spots. You can't use a rubric and say this is the range the student fits in because you will have a dozen ties or more. Judging the whole performance and doing your best to rank them is the only way it will work unless there are 2-3 rounds of auditions that get the numbers down to a manageable size.
We have always had a problem in our region (and I'm sure in other regions as well) with inconsistent or inaccurate region band judging. Question is this. Is it legal or allowed for a region to create a scoring rubric that judges had to use when judging a room. Maybe something that creates score ranges for performance levels, kind of like with marching band. So a student would perform, the judge would determine which range they fit in based on descriptors, then determine where they fit within that range. Anyone have experience with this? Is it allowed? I know there's the issue with training, but if this was put out there maybe it could be helpful.
