Re: To piano or not to piano
There's nothing in that piano part that isn't covered elsewhere. I would only do it if you have a competent piano player that is not needed somewhere else. Don't try to use a mediocre player. Also, don't try to use the piano to compensate for mediocre woodwinds or keyboard percussion. If those groups can't do it without the piano, pick a different piece.
I am considering playing Variations on Scarborough Fair this Spring. It has an optional piano part.
Does anyone have experience with this piece and can speak to whether or not it would be good to have that part performed?
