I took a 3C varsity group where (due to scheduling) 65% of the group was 7th graders. Most of that group should have been in the 2nd band. Those kids put up a valiant effort to earn their straight 2's on that one.
I have a good solid 3A program that I read that with. The whole time I was giving instruction (early contest) I was thinking in my head, 'dear God what is this mess....?' Trap after trap in that piece! Only time I can remember not fully making it through the piece completely in my instruction time! (Tried to hit the major pitfalls) Thankfully my kids thought it was easy and we got our 1's, but I cannot imagine having to read that with seventh graders in a 3C!
I agree with the statement that last year UIL got their act together. The 2019 sight-reading for Levels 1-3 were all well written and were enjoyable to listen to/teach. Hoping that becomes the norm...
