Re: Starting UIL Music
Well, at the old National Concert Band Contest (in the days of Revelli) there was a required instrumentation. There were some instruments you could substitute for (piano for harp, etc), but with a penalty.
I can remember when I started teaching and we would take our UIL date, count back six weeks and set a concert there. We might do our march for the concert, but otherwise UIL music started the next day. I got to where I pretty much set a concert the Tuesday of TMEA. we'd take off for SA on Wednesday, and UIL music started on Monday.
True, but I'm sure one day there will be a restriction on that, too. Heck, 20 years from now we'll be at the point where UIL or some other body will tell us when we can start our beginners or how many clarinets we are allowed to have at a UIL contest, etc.
