Re: rash from metal mouthpiece
Make sure their mouthpiece is clean inside and out, and also make sure their face and hands are clean, especially if they have band after PE or lunch. They might keep some wet wipes in their case.
Itís not a good idea for anybody to play on a mouthpiece thats chipped or missing lacquer so that there is exposed metal-especially if itís cold and windy and the lips are chapped.
I have a beginning student who seems to be getting a rash on his mouth from playing trombone. His mother has told me he cannot wear any metal against his skin because it will cause him to break out (like a chain or bracelet). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help this; we have talked about getting a plastic mouthpiece for him. Thank you for your help.
