We cordially invite you to join us this Sunday, November 24, at 4:00 p.m. in Bates Recital Hall as The University of Texas Wind Ensemble presents their third concert of the 2019-20 season featuring the world premiere of Roger Briggs Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble. The program will also contain works by Joan Tower, Percy Grainger and Xu Wang. You may reserve complimentary tickets (as long as they are available) prior to 4 p.m.on Friday, November 22 (apologies for the late notice) by contacting:
Ms. Karen Glass | (512) 232-1903 | Karen.Glass@austin.utexas.edu, or Jonathan Villela at: email@example.com
The concert will open with a rare performance of Pulitzer and Grawemeyer Award winning composer Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 3, originally composed for the brass section of the New York Philharmonic. Percy Grainger’s magnum opus, Lincolnshire Posy (1937) will be performed next, which will be followed by Xi Wang’s Winter Blossom. On the faculty of Southern Methodist University, Ms. Wang’s work has received multiple recent performances. Winter Blossom is lovingly dedicated to the memory of her teacher, Steven Stucky.
The concert will conclude with a world premiere performance of Roger Briggs Concerto. The student quartet consisting of Sean Meyers, Sarah Hetrick, Darwin McMurray and Megan Elks are put through their paces in a virtuostic tour de force for both quartet and ensemble.
