Re: How long before you repeat music at UIL?
I don't see anything wrong with repeating if it fits your band (within the UIL rules). My selections for concert are much more about the kids' success than my own personal enjoyment. If I do a piece I know, I already know where the pitfalls are likely to be and I can be prepared. I'm at a new school this year. I think I'm repeating a piece I did last year at the old school. It's a classic piece, and it fits these kids.
There are some programs out there that have a 3-4 year rotation. They repeat the same program for UIL like clockwork. I think that's just lazy. There's no way your band has all the same strengths and weaknesses every 4 years. If it does, you need to re-evaluate your teaching on those weak instruments and figure out what you're doing wrong.
