Re: "Throat" tongueing
This is actually an easy fix. Reteach it by having her whisper (no vocal cord movement) "tah" on quarter notes. Then have her do this through the mpc, without creating a buzz. Once she has this down, have her create the buzz while doing this. If she can get the concept of the whisper "tah" she can get the rest of it. In fact, this can (and should) be done on a daily basis with beginners. We do everything we play by whispering "tah" before we play. You can also have her try "sizzling" before she plays, but I feel this creates a closed tone when applied to the buzz.
Discovered today that a beginner trombone is articulating by closing her throat. She's making an audible "guh", but only noticable when she plays alone. Everything else is pretty solid.
Any tricks to fix this without bogging down the class?
