I have read this twice in trying to figure out something o respond. Playoff games are part of the job, and I don't see any way that you didn't know that when you signed your contract.
Here is the way I see it. Our marching band is the only time of the year that we get to perform for a large public crowd. It's the only time that you get to really showcase your kids and their abilities. Now, we all perform concerts, but in reality the only people at those concerts are family of the performing members. I see games as a way to show off my kids and their accomplishments. It is extra time, but it is what it is. The more that you complain about having to do it the worse it will be for you.
If you do actually have this conversation with your admin, please do let us know what they say. I am 99% certain what the response would be, but I guess there is always that 1%. Best of luck!
Lets take a moment to talk about the elephant in the room. Starting this month, all across the state, Band Directors, Coaches, Cheer and Dances Sponsors, Trainers, Twirling etc. will be working for no pay.
We will be working for free, literally slave labor, because your football team has performed well. Districts with teams who have failed to perform well are REWARDED for failing. They get to go home on Friday nights and be with their family.
I will be working for free. Do you agree with me that this is slave labor? I think too many people have accepted that its part of the job.
I think UIL should be footing the bill to equally pay us for our time from 1A to 6A. What do you think?
We need to have this conversation.
