He's not wrong. In fact, there is actual research on this. Most of it deals with behaviors in low socio-economic school and how poor discipline is often related to an inappropriately low maturity level. Don't get me wrong, there are some great kids in these schools, but the lack of maturity makes it more difficult to actually teach with 100% effectiveness in any classroom.
Please don’t ever teach in a poor district again with that attitude. It’s frankly disgusting. Our 80% ED school has some of the best kids you will ever meet. I have kids that truly want to be in the program. They aren’t in it because mom or dad told them to be. My kids don’t have private lessons. My kids miss rehearsals for their job at “Popeye’s” or to babysit siblings because their parents are working and the list goes on and on but I love the kids and wouldn’t trade them for your “upscale” kids any day. We had a great week in San Antonio just like the “upscale kids”
