Re: Additional Pay for Play-Offs
Itís pretty offensive to compare that to slave labor. There is no comparison in fact. For your own credibility sake, I hope you donít actually spout that line in public.
Yes you are paid to be at those playoff games. You are paid a salary under which you know going in the amount of hours you work may increase, will involve weekends and possibly even be on a holiday break. You are not paid wages which count hours and in the State of Texas you never will be.
You are much better off just asking for your admin for a raise in general than for one for working for the playoffs.
Lets take a moment to talk about the elephant in the room. Starting this month, all across the state, Band Directors, Coaches, Cheer and Dances Sponsors, Trainers, Twirling etc. will be working for no pay.
We will be working for free, literally slave labor, because your football team has performed well. Districts with teams who have failed to perform well are REWARDED for failing. They get to go home on Friday nights and be with their family.
I will be working for free. Do you agree with me that this is slave labor? I think too many people have accepted that its part of the job.
I think UIL should be footing the bill to equally pay us for our time from 1A to 6A. What do you think?
We need to have this conversation.
