And in small schools, if we can't reach average Bubba taxpayer/voter, when it's time to float a bond for a new band hall, guess what happens?
The Average Joe isn't at these shows; those are band parents. The band parents are going to show up regardless what the band is playing. I can promise you that if you program "Medea", 99.99999% of those band parents will have no clue, nor will they take the time to research what the opera is about...they will just cheer and clap for every loud chord hit; which unless you are playing mostly the Dance of Vengeance there aren't that many loud hits in the opera.
The Average Joe at the FB game is going to be even more clueless and care less about Medea than the band parents, and they are shelling out just as much tax money as anyone else...and there are more of them. If they can't get into the show, that is when they get up for the nachos, and they won't be inclined to show up to the contests.
The huge crowds at these shows are kinda weird, I guess they are just there for the nachos.
Evolving into a money wasting activity. Evolving into an activity that the average Joe (taxpayer) doesn't even want to see.
