Re: Flute marching position
As a flute player, it is extremely uncomfortable and absolutely horrible on the hand position to be shoulders and flute square to the sideline. That requires your right hand to literally be behind your shoulder and then your thumb can't push the flute forward to the chin like it is supposed to for the most stability and best sound. Try it and see how comfortable you would be. I personally think between the other two positions it matters not as long as they are all doing it exactly the same way and the judges can tell the intent.
We got several negative comments at UIL about our flutes' posture and playing position. I need to fix it before Area.
Assuming flutes are held parallel to the ground, what do you teach about front to back?
