Re: Best for the program
I teach in Ft. Worth. The HS that my children attend did not go, and not due to eligibility issues. Yes, almost
all the schools go, but not all.
Well, I'm a different person with no dog in the hunt. But, I know for a FACT that Ft. Worth ISD requires all their bands to go to UIL events.
There is nothing wrong with the show style drill, and it is not devalued or ignored by anyone...unless you believe giving a 4th Division performance a 4th Division is "devaluing" what they do.
Besides, I am well aware of several inner city schools that do show style, and do it at a level of excellence where they would get 1s or 2s at UIL...but they choose not to attend (that kinda weakens your claim of mandated attendance).
I challenge you to prove to everyone here that those FADs are mandating 100% of their schools go to UIL. Because we can all go to UIL Forms and look up contest results, and cross-reference the UIL entries with the number of schools in a given district that have a band program and tell if they all went or not.
Tell that to all the inner city Fine Arts directors who mandate that 100% of their schools go to UIL and march their show style marching drills at a contest that completely devalues and ignores everything they do.
